Lowest Greenville by Foot: A Dallas Donut Tour (Yes, Walking in Dallas)
Dallas drives everywhere. We know. That's partly why this walking tour feels like such a change of pace.
From Voodoo to the Tango frogs
Lowest Greenville is the end of Greenville Avenue where Dallas comes to eat, shop and stay out late. We see it by daylight. You meet at Voodoo Doughnut on Greenville Avenue, and one look at that first box of bright, over the top donuts tells you what kind of morning this is.
Tacos Y Mas is next, with warm churros and a view of the downtown Dallas skyline. Your guide walks you past Tyler Kingston, a mercantile stocked with Texas made goods, then down Oram Street and Sears Street, where huge, colorful murals cover the walls and everyone stops for photos. Village Baking Co. adds a French accent with laminated brioche and pastries. When the Texas heat kicks in, La La Land Kind Cafe hands out cold drinks.
Plenty of tours wind up at Truck Yard on Sears Street, beside the giant Tango frogs. They're a piece of Greenville folk art by Bob "Daddy-O" Wade, and they've come home to the neighborhood. They also pose for every group photo. Every single one.
A street with a past
Long before brunch patios, Lowest Greenville had a reputation for bars and live music, and the bungalows behind the main drag have been there for decades. Your guide fills in how the strip grew into one of the liveliest corners in the city, while you work your way through the Lowest Greenville Donut Tour, a food tour you can do in sneakers. There are morning, midday and early evening departures, so it fits around a game, a conference or a lazy Saturday. Sunglasses and water are a good idea. So is skipping breakfast.
